The price of Sui (SUI) has surged to $5.3 in the last seven days, marking a new all-time high (ATH). Could this coin become a leading player in 2025?

Sui entered 2025 with a significant milestone – a new ATH. On Jan. 4, the token peaked at $5.35. While the price has since slightly decreased, it has held above $5 at the time of writing.

Sui’s rally began in September 2024, when its price rose from $0.70 to over $1 in just a week.

SUI Price Prediction: What’s Ahead in 2025?

Sui’s rapid rise has drawn significant attention in the crypto community, with some dubbing it the “next Solana,” referencing the decentralized finance (DeFi) giant’s success. But can Sui meet these expectations?

Crypto trader Michaël van de Poppe predicts Sui’s next target is $6, suggesting the token could continue its growth trajectory this year, albeit with potential corrections.

Request 01 – $SUI

Massive daily candle on $SUI.

Dipped into support and bounced back quickly.

I’m not expecting that SUI has ended the trend, I think this will continue and that most of the pain is in.

Vlad Stoica highlighted that Sui reached new ATHs even before the start of altseason and noted a rise in key blockchain metrics.

Congrats $SUI holders!

Not only has it managed to show proper strength during this cycle, but it is also continuing to print new ATHs, even before a proper altseason.

Their metrics are also increasing, such as transactions, active users, mindshare, and so on, and remember,… pic.twitter.com/9SW7dUwHFD

Indeed, after the September rally, on-chain activity showed a sharp increase. According to Token Terminal, Sui’s popularity is growing, reflected in its trading volume.

For example, Sui’s trading volume in September hovered around $1 billion. By Oct. 10, it exceeded $4 billion. On Dec. 5, trading volume nearly hit $6 billion – a record high.

However, daily active addresses have declined over recent months. In September, active addresses exceeded 1.8 million, but by December, they had dropped below 800,000.

This decline could be attributed to the market’s focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents and meme coins during December. Solana, one of Sui’s competitors, played a key role in both sectors.

If we analyze Solana’s daily active addresses data, a growth trend becomes evident. Although there are occasional declines, they are followed by recoveries.

Is Sui Truly the ‘Solana Killer’?

Sui and Solana share similarities as fast-growing DeFi blockchains offering high transaction speeds.

Solana is well-known for hosting meme coins like Pundy Penguins (PENGU), Bonk (BONK), ai16z (AI16Z), and Dogwifhat (WIF), many of which rank among the top 10 by market capitalization.

While Sui also supports meme coins, they are less popular and have lower market caps. For example, Sui’s largest meme coin, LOFI, has a market cap of $168.3 million, compared to PENGU’s $2.6 billion.

Some meme coins on Sui remain under the radar. MemeFi (MEMEFI), once hyped for a potential Binance listing on Oct. 30, failed to gain significant traction and currently holds a market cap of $52.3 million.

AI agents, another major crypto trend, have also seen Solana’s involvement, with tokens like ai16z, Zerebro (ZEREBRO), aixbt by Virtuals (AIXBT), and Griffain (GRIFFAIN) operating on its blockchain.

Sui is making moves in the AI space with its SuiAI project, which bears similarities in design and aesthetics to Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL).

SuiAI’s token (SUIAI) is currently the ecosystem’s most popular project, with a market cap of $45 million. Launched in December, the token has surged by over 1250% in the last two weeks, according to CoinGecko.

At this stage, it is premature to label Sui the “Solana killer.” While Sui has gained traction in the meme coin and AI agent markets, it still lags behind Solana. However, its lower price compared to Solana ($215) makes it attractive to traders and long-term investors.

Is Sui the Next DeFi Giant?

Sui appears to be following Solana’s lead, entering sectors where its competitor thrives. One such area is liquid staking.

Currently, Sui hosts one liquid staking protocol, Haedal, which ranks fourth in total value locked (TVL) on the blockchain with $212 million, according to DeFiLlama.

Recently, OKX Ventures announced sponsorship for Haedal. Additionally, Sui’s TVL reached $2 billion by 2025, marking a new record.

Sui has the potential to become a major player in the next bull run. The project continues to expand, forging partnerships such as the integration with Phantom Wallet.

With a team composed of former Facebook (now Meta) members, Sui has earned trust among investors. Institutional players are also taking notice. In September, Grayscale launched the Sui Trust for accredited investors.
